Oil Mallees

Oil Mallee information

Oil mallees are showing significant promise for integrating with annual agriculture. These native trees coppise readily and often do not need to be fenced, so are ideal for planting in belts across the farming landscape. The Oil Mallee Association have developed excellent systems and processes over the last fifteen years and are the best point of contact for any enquiries regarding this industry.

In 2008, Wheatbelt NRM (previously known as the Avon Catchment Council), commissioned the development of a set of Case Studies with State and Commonwealth funding through the National
Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality.

Our thanks to the farmers for letting us share their stories:

Oil mallees will in the near future provide opportunities for carbon sequestration and bioenergy.
